Clarivate Analytics partners with the International Society for Informetrics and Scientometrics (ISSI) as ISSI 2017 conference sponsor and co-organizer of workshop on reproducible scientometrics research in Wuhan, China

PHILADELPHIA, October 17, 2017 – Clarivate Analytics, the global leader in providing trusted insights and analytics to enable researchers to accelerate discovery, announced its partnership with the International Society for Informetrics and Scientometrics (ISSI) as one of two sponsors of its ISSI 2017 conference which will be held at Wuhan University, China from October 17 – 20. The ISSI 2017 Conferences provide an International forum for scientists, research managers and administrators, as well as other professionals related to the fields of information and communication science, to share research and debate the new advancements of Informetrics and Scientometrics theories and applications.

The theme of the 16th bi-annual ISSI conference is the theory, method and principle of five metrics science concepts including Bibliometrics, Informetrics, Scientometrics, Webometrics and Knowledgometrics.

Clarivate will co-organize a workshop themed “Reproducible Scientometrics Research: Open Data, Open Code, and Education” on October 17. Chaired by Isidro F. Aguillo, Editor of RankingWeb, the workshop assembles leading experts to discuss ways in which to address the critical challenge of producing greater reproducibility in scientometrics data in today’s fast paced research environment, a common challenge faced by scientometricians around the world. Dr. Weiping Yue, Chief Scientist of the Greater China region at Clarivate Analytics, will deliver a presentation on the application of citation analysis, including recent exciting developments in the field on the same day.

Commenting on the company’s sponsorship and active participation in ISSI 2017, Annette Thomas, CEO of the Scientific and Academic Research division of Clarivate Analytics, said, “Information science has always been at the heart of what we do, ever since the late Dr. Eugene Garfield, a pioneer in scientometrics, founded the concept of citation indexing in 1955. We will continue to honor his legacy at Clarivate Analytics by working closely with leading scientometric research groups to support their needs for accurate, unbiased reproducible data and comprehensive citation analysis to enable the acceleration of research discovery.”

As a tribute to the late Dr. Garfield, Clarivate Analytics recently announced the first recipient of its Eugene Garfield Award for Innovation in Citation Analysis, at a memorial symposium on September 15 to commemorate and celebrate his contributions to the field of information retrieval and scientometrics, and attended by some of the world’s most renowned experts in the field. Dr. Jian Wang, Assistant Professor at the Science Based Business Program, Faculty of Science, Leiden University in the Netherlands, was selected for the award among many innovative, high-quality applications received from 18 countries in Asia, Europe, the Americas, and the Middle East. A commemorative video capturing the key highlights from Dr. Garfield’s  memorial symposium will be given to all workshop delegates.

Formally incorporated in the Netherlands in 1994, the ISSI is an international association of scholars and professionals active in the interdisciplinary study of the science of science, science communication, and science policy. The community focuses on quantitative approaches to the study of science, including informetrics, scientometrics, and webometrics.
